The last few years has seen a fantastic increase in awareness about mental health and it has been great to see companies of all sizes taking the opportunity to educate employees and line-managers about mental health problems. There is far greater recognition about how work impacts on health and health on work and many businesses now have robust processes and practices for when things have gone wrong.
There is, however, still a gap in knowledge about how to keep people from becoming unwell in the first place. Building support networks within businesses and personal resilience among employees needs a coherent strategy and a realistic delivery plan which can include personal health management programmes, visible corporate encouragement and support, and cultural change.
